Last weekend I went on a “nature walk” at the Field Museum.
I really should take better advantage of the multiple museums, exhibits, and other cultural things in town. It’s hard to believe that I’ve been living here for almost a year and a half, and this is the first time I’d been in that South Loop Museum Campus area.
Then again, more things should be easier to get to and free to attend…like the Chicago Cultural Center is.
Vivian Maier - Her Discovered Work

A friend shared a video with me yesterday of the story of Vivian Maier, a Chicago nanny who shot more than 100,000 photographs…and never shared them with anyone. Maier’s negatives were purchased at an auction by John Maloof and, after seeing what he had, he has worked tirelessly to help share her images of life in Chicago throughout the 1950s, 60s, and 70s.
On Friday, January 7, 2011 (That’s today), an exhibit celebrating her work opens at the Chicago Cultural Center on 78 E Washington in the Chicago Loop and runs until Sunday, April 3rd. Admission is FREE.
Find full details about the exhibit here.
