What a lovely day in the neighborhood! It feels so wonderful to finally be outside without all the bundling…
Last weekend I went on a “nature walk” at the Field Museum.
I really should take better advantage of the multiple museums, exhibits, and other cultural things in town. It’s hard to believe that I’ve been living here for almost a year and a half, and this is the first time I’d been in that South Loop Museum Campus area.
Then again, more things should be easier to get to and free to attend…like the Chicago Cultural Center is.
Photos from touring last weekend with Rocket Miner and Old Worlds. We stopped through Chicago, Saint Louis, and Columbus OH. Many blasts were had by all.
Also, another “Forgive Yourself” graffiti at CBGBs in Saint Louis matches the one off Milwaukee Ave between the Damen and Division blue line stop. Score.
Meredith and I cashed in a Travelzoo coupon this morning good for two entrees at Marmalade.
One of their Fall specials is a pumpkin French toast with creme de leche, roasted pecans, pumpkin cream, and cranberries.
Also on their menu is the “Lady Marmalade”, which is French toast with orange marmalade, creme anglaise, raspberry drizzle, dried banana chips, and even more fruit. Don’t worry, the song has been stuck in my head ever since, too..
I would eat here again in a heartbeat, provided my arteries are still clear.

Was anybody else here for this? There were two songs Hum played that I couldn’t recognize.
Suicide Machine, The Pod, Iron Clad Lou, Little Dipper, _____, Green To Me, I Hate It Too, Comin’ Home, Afternoon With The Axolotis, Stars, _____, The Scientists, (encore) I’d Like Your Hair Long.
Bucket list, check. Also, Maritime was awesome.
There’s no way this is legit, right?

“Retrospecticus, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Be a Chicagoan”

I moved to Chicago on this day last year.
Here’s the abridged version of the last 365.25 days:
- I’m a college student again
- Assaulted in Ukranian Village, but started a band in the process
- My wallet was stolen in the Loop during the NLCS (Worst. Series. Ever.)
- Craigslist is either perfect or disastrous for finding roommates
- Last winter, I had the biggest beard of my entire life
- Working for a chain restaurant has motivated me to make sure I’m never again in a position to need to work for a chain restaurant
- Nuclear winter > Chicago winter
- Seven staples to the back of my head after fainting in my apartment
- Spring is my favorite season, and Chicago forgot to have one this year
- With Pounce and now Demon, I’m officially a crazy cat lady
- “No Sleep Summer”
- I was a bicycle owner for all of two weeks before it was stolen
- Fresh water beaches > Salt water beaches
- The summer heat actually impairs my ability to function on most days
And so begins Year Two. But this time I’ll have company.
What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger. Right?
Bring it on. Again.
