The B-side to yesterday’s post are photos from another full-band tracking session, this time with Jess Godwin.
Fresh off her stint at SXSW, we tracked out a new song of hers. She’ll be returning to the studio later this week for another session.
She’s a busy gal, and you catch her around town just about any time for the next few months. Plus, she’ll be playing a show at Subterranean in Chicago in May with Gersten Hayward from Twin Peaks.
Busy week last week, and here’s some photos from a studio session with The Gentlemen’s Guild. Basic tracks were laid down on three tracks for an upcoming EP, with an overdub session scheduled for tomorrow.
RIYL: The Mercury Program, Sharks Keep Moving, Don Caballero, American Football, Tortoise, and mathematics.
On a related note, I’m pretty sure the Glyn Johns’ drum miking technique is my new favorite anything. We put additional close mics on the toms, as well as a kick out and room mics, to get some extra punch and oomph to the drums.
I’m excited to say that Rocket Miner’s EP, Songs For An October Sky, was recently picked up by German post-rock label Oxide Tones and is slated for re-release on Friday April 13 2012.
Additionally, the video for Rocket Miner’s “It’s The End Of The World (But This Is Just The Beginning)” wrapped shooting over the weekend and (fingers crossed) should be ready on or before 4/13. Many thanks again go out to Jeffrey Moore of Axtravaganza Films, Gary Schultz, and Rob Stern for all their help.
Some Of My Audio Work Posted Online

A few weeks ago I met with Kent Rose for a mix session on the songs we recorded together back in December. He’s now gone ahead and streamed them on his website for your listening pleasures.
That mix session is responsible for tracks #3-7 in his media player. Special thanks to Jesse Rodriguez and Cody Walker during the initial tracking session.
Always a pleasure, Kent. Can’t wait to see you again soon.
Just got home with some early production stills from a video shoot for Rocket Miner tonight. Follow this link to the song we’re going with, tracked and mix by yours truly and mastered by Azimuth Mastering.
We’re working with a script treatment from Jeffrey Moore of Axtravaganza Films and tonight was our shoot for the live segment footage (Second Unit). Great experience tonight, there’s still plenty more work to come.
- Director- Gary Schultz
- Camera- Rob Stern
From what I’ve seen of the early captures, this is going to look so SLICK. Can’t wait to share the finished product.
Mixing session last Wednesday at CRC.
The team of Tribeca Flashpoint students finished our mix for entry into Shure Inc’s “Fantastic Scholastic 8” competition. The final submissions are due next month, and winners will be announced in late April.
This experience has been one of a kind, and it’s been a lot of fun to be involved.
Tracking with Kent Rose from another session last week at Tribeca Flashpoint.
Back in October, I met him at Cole’s Bar during one of his performances where he made a Mars Attacks! reference to the crowd; I was hooked right then and there.
His website bills him as “The Voice That Remembers” and, after having spent an evening at work with him, now I know why. We ended up chatting in the control room for nearly as long as we spent tracking, and he shared more than a few of his life stories (and he’s got them by the gallons).
Shots from a tracking day last week with The Ex-Senators.
Recordings made in the studios at Tribeca Flashpoint as part of Shure Inc’s “Fantastic Scholastic 8” competition.

Back in March, I was apart of a tracking session in the studio at school with @PillowTalkAgency. We cut a couple tracks that day, but I zeroed in on this one - “Heartbeat” - and mixed/edited it over the subsequent few weeks.
The band was a blast to work with that day, we all had a great time, and this glowing opinion most certainly comes without forced solicitation. (Wink wink nudge nudge)
“For fans of cutesy, over-the-top, blow-your-brains-out rockabilly, Pillow Talk is a band that is comforting, sometimes sweet, kinky, and always a good time.” (taken from the group’s Facebook)
